It's been around so long for a reason! Sep 26, 2011
By Jonny Hotshoe I am a sign maker, so I use an xacto multiple hours a day. These are the quintessential light duty utility/precision blades for a reason. Buy a knife for 10 and a hundred blades for 20 and you will never be without a sharp knife. Can even cut through aluminum(.040 I've seen it myself).
The danger to this blade is that it's round. Which means it will roll off your work table with a slight breeze. A coworker had one land in his shoe right between two toes. So just make a stand for it, cap it or place perpendicular to the edge when not in use.

Razor Knife Holder/Handle Aug 18, 2012
By Denice J. Johnson
"chosen"
The handle that the blade goes in is awesome. However, for what I need the blades for didn't work for me. I use the blades for etching designs on dyed eggs. My fingers hold the handle way down on the handle like you would a pencil. The blade is sharp all the way down to the handle, so I can't hold the blade like I want to without getting cut. The blade, yes, is very sharp and can be used for cutting out things that is not intricate work. If you want to cut something where your hand can be way up on the handle, then the blade would be perfect. But, I would have to wrap tape around and around the blade that is nearest the knife handle just so I wouldn't cut myself, just to use the point on the projects I do.

X-acto Knife Jul 09, 2012
By k0alaFRESH Decent inexpensive Knife. Its a good knife if you are just starting out on modeling but you will eventually need a better one. This is just a super basic no frils craft knife. the only complaint I have really, is the screw on head that holds the blade, comes lose pretty off and that can be a pain if you are doing some delicate, tedious work with it. Three stars for being inexpensive and of decent quality, minus two for not holding on to its blade.

Standard all-purpose handle, long lasting, dependable. Jul 04, 2012

I've purchased so many of these through the years that it's a standard item in my tool kits and field boxes. Over time, I've lost the caps and or broken them by placing heavy items on them. Since the knife is about the same size as a pen, you can find pen caps that will work nearly as well in a pinch.
I use these knives for so many things, RC modeling, cutting paper, cutting plastic, trimming and so forth. If you buy the blades in the 100 pack the cost goes down enough that you don't worry about getting a fresh blade out. An important tip is to keep your blade sharp. Once it's going dull your risk of slipping, ruining whatever it is you are working on, or worse yet cutting yourself goes up. Be safe; keep a very sharp blade on. If you are cutting something and it seems harder than usual to cut, then change the blade and you'll find that was likely the issue.
There are also new blades with a hardened golden cutting edge. They cost much more. The standard blades in the 100 pack last so long that I wouldn't really worry about getting the more expensive blades.
4 stars, this is a very handy low cost knife handle, required for any toolbox. Not 5 stars because there are heavier duty models that are a bit nicer, but again they are more expensive too.
