Metal case feels great, the rest is low quality garbage Mar 17, 2013
By Charlie Lesoine I bought this utility knife thinking I was receiving a well designed product. It looked to be really well thought out and of high quality...before I took it out of the packaging. Don't get me wrong, whoever conceived this product was on the right track. The shape is unique from any other knife like this and It feels great to hold in your hand. The problem is with the plastic pieces inside that are supposed to hold the blade in place. They do a terrible job. I noticed this immediately when I first tried to push the blade out. Pushing the button down and sliding it forward causes the plastic to bind and is not at all smooth action. It feels cheaper than the one I bought form the 99 cents store. The plastic pieces are just not formed to an acceptable level of accuracy. When the blade "locks" into place you can still move the blade around a lot which makes doing any kind of precision work with this product a joke. Opening the metal case to change the blade revealed two more issues. First, there is just a s****y little piece of plastic holding the two sides of the metal shell together. If you don't lock it all the way, the two metal halves can come apart. This is dangerous. Second, the you are supposed to be able to put the blade in perpendicular to the handle in order to use the knife to scrap windows, etc. After I put the blade in to do this as instructed on the back of the packaging, it was so loose that it fell out when I tried to cut with it. Basically if you are cutting construction paper, this product wil probably be ok. If you are doing any cutting that requires actually putting some muscle into it this product could be dangerous. I expect better from the Xacto.

By Diane I was happy with the size and weight of this knife. I do a lot of cutting for the art projects that Ii work on and was very happy with this product.

It's a very sharp knife Jun 05, 2012
By Stephen H Daly It's sharp enough to cut through plastic which is why I bought it. I like the fairly adult proof locking mechanism. You won't cut your finger off. Nice sturdy metal shell.
