These work wonderfully with sugar cookie dough, but I haven't tried any other kinds of medium to play with. The sizes vary, but the average cutter size will be around 3 inches.
What's included:
All the letters in the alphabet and single digit numbers, and a question mark
Lots of hearts: three scalloped and three smooth in different sizes, a heart with an arrow, and a double heart
Holidays:
Easter: bunny face, bunny, egg, cross,
Halloween: big pumpkin, small pumpkin, ghost, scared cat, bat, witch, haunted house
Christmas: small christmas tree, large christmas tree, candy cane, snowman, stocking
4th of July: flag
Sports: trophy, baseball cap, football helmet, football
People: gingerbread-shaped small boy and girl, and gingerbread-shaped large boy and girl, hand, foot
Dinosaurs: stegosaurus, T-rex
Machines: train, car, plane, fire engine, truck
Animals: dog, fish, 2 sizes of teddy bear, duck
Misc: 3 different sized smooth circles, 3 different sized scalloped circles, bell, shooting star, cowboy hat, boot, butterfly, flower, sun, tulip
All in all, a pretty complete set, I have nothing to complain about in terms of variety, ease of use, quality of the item, or anything else. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend this product if you are just starting a cookie cutter collection. They covered everything! Great selection of shapes and a variety of sizes.

This set of cookie cutters will provide all the cookie cutters I will ever need for any holiday or special occasion. They work very well and will not scratch my counter type like metal ones may. This was well worth the cost.

Covers all bases (except thanksgiving and birthdays) Dec 06, 2011

Before I go further, I'm going to say I've uploaded photos of ALL cookie cutters, and they can be seen under 'product images'.
These cover like, all bases. Christmas, Halloween, Valentines.. If it had Thanksgiving and birthdays (cakes, candles, etc), it'd be absolutely perfect. However, I've never seen a set come closer. There are some shapes larger than others, but it works out well like that. The cutters are bright and colorful, and color-coded by season / whatever. For example, the magenta ones are letters, the baby pink are Valentines, and the green are Christmas. They seem sturdy and durable.
The container doesn't seem like one you can re-use, since I only removed them to photograph them, and there's a tiny mountain on the top, so I clearly won't be getting the lid back on. (I was going to sort them into small baggies for occasion anyway, so this doesn't bother me.)
A few came raised / bent upwards (photos of that available as well), but that isn't an issue, since they're easily pressed into normal shape to cut the cookies with. (I did one of the larger cutters with two fingers- one on the top, one on the bottom.)
Overall, I think this cookie cutter set will complete almost anyone's collection, at least majority of the way. If you're looking for specialty sets (such as fall leaves, or woodland animals), you might want to buy that in addition / instead of. If you're looking for a base set that you can buy those specialty sets to add on with, this is it.

I bought these for my 3 year old. We use them for cookies, playdough, cake decorating and turning boring toast into fun breakfast. They are flat on one side so he can use them easily, they are solid and they survive the dishwasher well. The other nice thing is that they are color coded - pink for Valentines Day, purple for vehicles, etc. This makes it easy for me to find the ones he wants. There are many sizes as well.
