Good Buy! Sep 11, 2009
By K. Woodburn Great pan! I used it to make a globe cake, so I made two cakes and placed them on top of each other. The pan isn't so deep that the center doesn't cook. It cooked evenly throughout and would work well for any round shaped cake. I recommend this pan.

Makes half-ball cakes Nov 03, 2008
By Dressmaker It takes much longer to bake a cake in this pan than the instructions say--it took a solid hour for the cake to bake completely (one box mix or one average recipe). I was worried that the edges would be burnt before the center was done, and they were quite firm and brown, but not burnt. This pan is useful for making any type of ball cake, and I have used it for my son's soccer and baseball team parties with great success.

great pan, lots of uses! May 26, 2008
By Calamity Jane I used this pan to make a basketball cake for my son's birthday party last year. It took a lot longer to bake than I expected (nearly an hour), but my yellow cake mix ended up having the texture of a fluffy pound cake. It tasted and "felt" very professional because of the texture. It came out of the pan perfectly, and the large lip on one side of the pan made it very easy to get it out of the oven. The cake was nice and large, yielding at least 15 servings if not more.
While the pan itself has markings for a soccer ball, the instructors include designs for a basketball and baseball (a soccer ball is harder, so the marking for that make it much easier to do). It was very easy to make it a basketball, and kids and parents alike were very impressed with the results.
This pan could be used to make anything that would be a half dome, like a planet, the moon, a disco ball, beach ball, etc. If you were crazy enough, you could make two batches and put them together with popsicle sticks to make a giant ball. Regardless, I would definitely recommend this pan!

love it! versatile. Aug 29, 2011
By Prissy I actually bought this to make my own baby shower cake. I used it to make a pregnant belly and covered it in fondant. Everyone loved that cake and has asked me to help them make future cakes. You could use it to make several kinds of cake not just a soccer ball. Pregnant belly, basket ball, tennis, golf, baseball...be creative!

Great Wilton pan Feb 07, 2011
By Annika I purchased the Wilton Soccer Ball Pan to make the ball part of a large soccer themed cake ('half' a soccer ball sitting on top of a large sheet [soccer field] cake).
It baked perfectly, did not stick to the pan, and was the perfect size for my cake. I was worried it would be too heavy, thus weigh down/drop into the cake sheet it was sitting on top of, but that was not a problem.
The outlines made it easy to decorate the ball in black and white (which otherwise would have been impossible to get just right). It cleaned up very nicely as well.
It could definitely be used separately if you were making a smaller cake.
