Dangerous and difficult to use May 22, 2011
By Crystal Watanabe
"Pikko"
I bought this exact same product at a local craft store and was sorely disappointed. The rods themselves are already cut crookedly and cutting them flat yourself is nearly impossible. The instructions say to cut these with a serrated knife or kitchen shears. Well, the plastic is very slippery. I used a serrated knife at first and during the second cut, the knife slipped and I sliced my thumb wide open.
After I'd bandaged myself up, I used kitchen shears and this made the rods all bent out of shape because it would pinch the rod while you were cutting. You could bend it back, but it still didn't help the fact that it wasn't flat and really didn't do much for what I was using them for. I cut them to the same height as my cake, but then after stacking my cake, I realized I should have cut it slightly shorter. My tier was floating off the bottom layer because of the slight irregularities in the plastic ends. The instructions on this product don't mention that at all, they just say to refer to cake instructions. Big help there.

Not what I expected Jan 25, 2011
By Lollipop Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get yourself a piece of 1/2" or 1" pvc pipe and cut it to the size you need. That is all this is. You could definitely get more for you money by buying one long piece of pipe instead.

Great buy May 31, 2011
By Tatiana Came in very handy when I needed it for the cake. It was very easy to cut and the cut was clean. It provided great support to the cake.
WONDERFUL for WEDDING CAKE Jan 02, 2012
By leigh1510 I used these to make my first wedding cake, which was extremely heavy, a 3 tier cake. Each level had 2 layers of cake. So there were 6 cakes stacked on top of one another. This cake consisted of about 20 boxes of cake mix. And then there is all the icing. So you can imagine the weight! I used the wilton cake plate separators for each tier and also these dowel rods. They were AMAZING! Cake was soo sturdy and there was no fear of it fallng over or sinking into one another! I def. recommend this product! :) VERY PLEASED!
