Very Helpful Jul 25, 2010
By Nicole Machi Unlike the kits for the basic class and the flower class which you have to heavily supplement with other purchases, this kit contains pretty much everything you need to take the Wilton Fondant and Gum Paste class (except the fondant and gum paste, the roll and cut mat, the large rolling pin.. and maybe a few other things I can't think of off the top of my head). Also, compared to the old kits you get a lot more for your money (granted, you're still paying $35 for a bunch of plastic that cost a few dollars to make, but even though its still technically a rip off, its a very useful rip off! Some of the things you only use once or twice in class, but I've enjoyed working with fondant much more than buttercream or royal icing so I've been making cakes and flowers outside of class, and they give you enough in this kit to experiment for a while)
I think you can use this kit even if you don't take the class and want to learn cake decorating on your own (but buy the Wilton Gum Paste and Fondant Lesson Plan if you do that). The other two classes I felt like I benefited from having an instructor to guide me, whereas this class I really could have done on my own with the book and the kit.
Also (in case you were looking for a bit of unsolicited adivce) Wilton fondant and gum paste taste terrible. Even the best store-bought fondants taste sort of "ehh". but you can make your own! Wilton's website has recipes for marshmallow fondant and rolled fondant. Both are good. Marshmallow is easier to make and tastes better to me.. and for gum paste, buy Wilton Gum- Tex or a product called tylose and make your own. It tastes a million times better and saves lots of money!

Great starter kit for fondant skills Nov 26, 2010

I have not had a class and got this kit, although it comes with no instructions on how to use it, you can check out some Youtube tutorials that'll guide you. The set is pretty basic, so if you think you'll be working a lot with fondant save your money and get a nicer/bigger set of fondant cutter and tools.

Worth buying Aug 17, 2011
By OnthePath I am very happy with my kit. I didn't take any Wilton classes. Just by watching some videos I could do many things with it. It will enable you to do a lot of things and for the price, it's very reasonable!

Good in tandem with the flower making kit Oct 14, 2011
By Jolene Pirrone There is some overlap with the Wilton Gum Paste Flowers Set, but they make a good combo. It is also cost effective rather than buying items individually.

This is Wilton Course 3 Feb 13, 2013
By John Please note this is Wilton Course 3 even though it does not say that anywhere in the description, and it is almost impossible to return. They allow you to exchange only and send you the same thing every time. I had to call Amazon to get it resolved since I ordered course 3 a year ago and thought I was ordering tools that were not included in any of the course kits.
This is a very good course if you don't already have it. The low rating is only because of the confusion it causes by not stating in the description what it really is.
