Don't waste your money! Feb 28, 2011
By Baker This leveler was such a disappointment. I bought it for a big cake project and ended up having to piece the cake back together. The blade is SO FLIMSY, it can't cut a straight line. I tried to use it to tort a sheet cake and the blade came out at the TOP of the cake! I could see it coming, but couldn't get the blade to go level. Great idea, but serious piece of junk.

Good in theory Dec 31, 2010
By Netty Belle This is a sturdy item and it cuts well. The problem I am having with it is that I can't lower the cutting piece as much as other levels. I am having trouble describing this, but it does not have small enough increments between settings. One setting is too low and when you move it up it is way too high. I can't get the precise cuts that I can with my wire cutter. I don't like this item at all and will be going back to using my wire cutter.

Works OK Feb 11, 2011
By Kelly Becvar Well I like the fact that its huge and could slice any size cake, the problem is the blade is a little flimsy and sometimes doesnt stay straight which completely is the opposite effect! If you are careful with it and hold the blades firm it works well. Also works better with a frozen cake.

so super flimsy Jun 15, 2011
By jenrfailla I bought this leveler at my local michael's store. I had previously owned the cheap wilton leveler (the 4 dollar one) and could not find it when I went to level a cake- so I ran to the store, saw this one for over 20 bucks and since the blade was larger, i thought, why not? I'll treat myself... I got this home and within 5 minutes was back in my car returning this piece of garbage. The cheap leveler is just a tight wire that cuts through your cake. Thinking this one, having a blade, would be better- I got it. The blade buckles and doesn't stay taut and you don't get an even cake- WHICH IS THE ENTIRE POINT OF BUYING A LEVELER. Buyer beware- this is a garbage piece- and I decorate lots of cakes and like "most" of wilton's products- but save your money... a serated knife would do a better job.

Ultimate? I don't think so. Jul 07, 2011
By Neilswifey I am a baker/decorator and decided to treat myself to the Wilton 'Ultimate' Cake Leveler. I really wish I hadn't bothered.
The blade is so flexible that I have not been able to get a straight cut yet. I have tried it with different cake flavors in case texture made a difference, but it is terrible with everything.
The blade certainly seems sharp enough but I can cut through the cake from one side to the other, remove the layer I've cut, reposition the blade over the bottom layer and can see immediately that I'm at least quarter of an inch out in places. It really is a load of rubbish.
I didn't have any trouble with cleaning (which was a concern at first), but as I'm never going to use it again, that's hardly an issue for me. I bought the small leveler initially, which is also a pointless piece of equipment. It simply does not cut at all. I thought by upgrading to a product five times as expensive, I'd be getting something that worked. No such luck. Honestly, save yourself the money and frustration and don't buy this product.
