Pattern not prominent enough Aug 23, 2010
By L. Adams I thought the pattern should be more prominent, if you ice it first (as most of the recommended decoration variations show on instructions), you can forget about seeing the pattern to add the details too. I basically freehanded a castle on top of the icing. You need the icing to fill in the flat background and solid column spots or it won't look right. Gave it 3 starts because the actual pan is fine, a good size and the pictures it came with were good enough to be able to freehand the decoration on after the pattern was lost under the icing and had some good variations of ways to decorate. Cheaper though to just make a cake and pipe a castle scene on.....with about the same end result.

Real cute cake, not so easy to decorate for first timers Aug 19, 2008
By BusyShopper The cake came out great. All the details looked great after you take the cake out of the pan... Now the tough part. Once you smear the icing on the cake, it is near impossible to see what's what. Had to keep looking at the picture that came with the pan to decorate. It might be easier if the cake is decorated part by part. But since the cake had five turrets and a main castle entrance, it was easy enough to sort of make it work, even for a novice like me. Kids loved it and couldn't get to it fast enough!

Hard to see the details Jul 06, 2010
By C. Taylor Some Wilton pans are easier to use than others. This particular shape (the enchanted castle) was a challenge. After the cake had baked and cooled properly, it needed to be frosted with a thin white layer, as do all the decorated cakes. The problem I experienced with this particular design was that once the white frosting had been spread over the entire cake, it was nearly impossible to see the details, such as the windows, roof lines, door, etc. I had to just guess using the pan beside me as a guide. The cake turned out okay, but not nearly as nicely as other cakes made from Wilton pans. The ladybug cake pan was particularly easy to use.
Great! Apr 15, 2012
By mistijo79 Great pan! My daughter loved the princess castle that I made, but I loved that the instructions for the pan came with other ideas to decorate the cake. I loved that you could do a sand castle or knight castle, they are ideas I never would have thought of on my own.
