Decent tool for a blasting newbie Jul 22, 2010
By Teapot I have very little experience with sandblasting. I did a little in shop class in junior high, my uncle owned a radiator shop and let me blast a radiator he put in my first car 20 years ago. So when I decided I wanted to get a sandblaster to do some artsy-crafty projects with, I needed to do a little research. I didn't need anything too hard-core/professional grade. I also wanted something that was pretty portable. This little machine seemed to fit the bill, and at this low price I didn't have a whole lot to lose if it didn't work out.
I've only used it a few times, as I don't have my own compressor yet (borrowed a friend's.) It worked well, but it did run out of sand fairly rapidly, since it's a relatively small reservoir. I had no problems with clogging.
I did not have much success with the little rubber tips and the "recovery system." It did keep the sand from going everywhere, but the bag filled up very fast. Also, the tips don't allow you to see what you are working on, so it is really hard to know how long to keep blasting on any given spot. If they could make them out of a clear plastic that would probably work. Since I don't have a blasting booth, I ended up just doing the blasting outside with a face shield on.
So, this tool does work, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who is going to be doing alot of high volume stuff (which is obviously not what this is designed for.)
