This tape dispenser is cute, that's about it. Very lightweight, not very sturdy. Would not recommend for an office environment, but fun for an at home office.

Not Durable May 23, 2010
By E. Watson This product is cute but, not durable at all. After placing tape on dispenser the gripper does not hold the dispenser in place. You have to hold the tape dispenser down to retrieve tape. Would not recomment.

Easy way to fix weight Jun 04, 2011
By Thomas Jhou As everybody said, this thing is cute, but too light. Here is an easy fix:
Buy cheap bottle of steel BB pellets. Drill hole in bottom of "shoe". Fill with metal pellets. Glue hole shut.
Voila!
The "toe" and "heel" have a lot of empty space inside. I was able to add about a pound of additional weight, which is about perfect.

A Shoe In! Apr 18, 2011

The Red Shoe Scotch Magic Tape Dispenser is a fashionable way to dispense tape and the perfect workspace companion for the Swingline Rio Red Stapler. Yes, you need two hands to use it, but that is clearly stated above in the product's Technical Details, so you should know what to expect. I don't mind the fact that it is so lightweight, but the construction does feel a bit flimsy. I'm not sure how long it will last, or if it would survive a fall from a desk onto a hard floor. Thankfully, the base is large and stable, so it isn't going to tip over on its own. The design is good, but I need to be accurate with my big fingers to get under the tape to pull it out. A slightly wider and deeper gap between the tape roll and metal cutter would have been an improvement. The roll does not easily come loose when pulling out tape, so that's a positive.
While it won't replace the "Old Reliable" as the standard for office tape dispensing, it does make a cute gift. I have mine at home and my daughter uses it for her various school project and creative endeavors. It costs a good deal more than "O.R." the as well, but you are paying for the novelty. Style doesn't come cheap!
