Superior Quality Nov 09, 2007
By Tolson These wonderful pencils are a great asset to the serious artist. They blend beautifully and work very well in conjunction with Prismacolor's Premier pencils. While the Premier pencils are softer and can build up a more opaque finish, Verathin pencils have the ability to be sharpened to a fine point (for a hard line), and result in a slightly sheer effect, allowing the paper to show thru a bit. One of the top favored brands by artists everywhere. Don't let the price scare you. These pencils are a worthy investment. You can't go wrong with Prismacolor!

Love these pencils, love the under $20 price too Jan 02, 2008

I've tried the regular Prismacolors and Crayolas. The Verithins are the best for cartooning or illustrating which is my primary use for them. Considering the others are less quality for higher price, these are the best deal out there. I buy the 36 packs by the half dozen (for real!) and give them away to my neices and nephews and any other young friend interested in drawing and coloring.
Since all the good stores are selling these for under $20 for the 36 count box, its a great way to get a lot of good colors for not a lot of money. Why Toyzzz thinks they can get $50 is beyond me, they are everywhere for under $20.
They look best on smooth paper but even sketch paper looks pretty good.
The fold over box is a nice addition too and makes them easy to work with.
The only colors they left out and would have to be purchased separatly are the colorless blender and the Non-photo blue. If you don't know what those are, you won't need them anyway...

verithin is TOO thin Mar 05, 2009
By Nicole Baker The verithin pencils have extremely hard lead, which means they do not leave a lot of color. As the lines are already THIN (as is the intent), they are hardly visible. I suppose these are sufficient in doodling ideas-or the under layer of drawings to be later redone with a heavier and more visible lead-but, for general drawing/coloring purposes, these are not the pencils for you.
