POR Fuel Tank Sealer - POR Does It Again. Nov 30, 2010
By Larry P. Shouse
"Larry"
We recently purchased this product to seal a gas tank in a 1970 Chevy pick-up truck. This truck had been sitting a long time. Once we put a new engine in and got the truck on the road, we had constant problems with rust coming through the fuel line. Although we had an in-line fuel filter in place just before the carb, we were having to literally change it every month. We knew we had to do something when the fuel pump clogged up and left us stranded.
The fuel tank sealer was quite easy to use. We took the tank out, emptied it, then washed it out and let it dry. We then taped up the sending unit hole, poured in the sealer after a good shake and stir, then rolled the tank around to make sure we covered the entire inside surface. We waited the 96 hours as suggested on the instructions before we re-installed the tank and filled it up with gas.
All fuel related problems have gone away. The fuel filter now stays clean, and the truck is running great. I have used POR 15 on my classic car and truck restoration projects for years. POR makes fine products you can believe in, and this fuel tank sealer is no exception. I wouldn't hesitate to use anything they make.
The merchant I bought it from through Amazon shipped it right away. No complaints there either. I hope my experience with this product and merchant will help you decide. Good luck on your project!
TANK MUST BE DOWN TO BARE METAL!!!!! Mar 31, 2012
By DAR got this stuff because of a lot of research it looked like the best.... an probably is- BUT my tank a old 912 had all ready had tank liners poured in and my acid bath of the tank couldn't get all the out liner out. was therefor a nightmare job to get all the liner out..... IE liner hanging all over the place in the tank-I finished the acid wash soaked with oil and called it O-K for this job as i am only making sure the car is worth fixing.... so i still have the stuff on my shelf as i am saving it for a different project
POR 15 Gas Tank Sealant Jul 12, 2011
By David W. Schreiber Good stuff as I would expect from POR 15. Anybody can do this. The hard part is removing the tank from the vehicle. Steam and chemical clean the tank first, use the Metal Ready, then slush it with the sealant. One quart was enough to do a large tank from a 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60. Just read and follow the instructions.
