Solid Mech Pencil May 10, 2007
By Dale Nesmith Essentially the Draft/Matic Pencil is a good choice for anyone looking for a mech pencil. It comes in different size leads and allows you to keep track of which shade of lead you have in it. The weight is good and it's mechanically sound. I recommend it.

Looks cool, but... Jun 29, 2009

I'm a mechanical drafter/designer and still draw some stuff by hand to keep in practice. I was looking for a stylish 0.9mm pencil for thicker lines. This pencil looks good and the knurling gives it a secure feel in your hand but... it has a spring loaded tip that will not allow you to apply extra pressure on the tip when you need heavy weight lines. So, it's back to the bland yellow Pentel for me. Bottom-line: NOT recommended for serious drafting.

Excellent Mechanical Pen May 28, 2010
By Gregoire Arranz Great position in hand. The metal grip gives great control. Robust construction. My wife and children only want to use this now.

Helps me write more neatly Jul 20, 2010
By Andrew Aceves I am a professional (geologist) who has always had difficulty in writing neatly. I first used a draftmatic pencil in college in a cartography class and was amazed at what a difference a heavy, solid drafting pencil could make; It helps my hand feel steadier on the page.
This isn't like the cheap, plastic, mechanical pencils in the office supply bins. It has a good, solid, tactile "feel". And I have found that I write more neatly, (and look way cooler) using the 0.9mm draftmatic. I tried it on my 10-year-old son recently, and it made a huge difference for him too. The 0.9mm is solid, it makes for readable, bold, printing. 0.5mm, and 0.7mm are nice too, but the 0.9mm is my first choice every time.
I do all my drafting on Autocad these days, but I still swear by the 0.9mm Draftmatic as my day-to-day writing utensil.
