Since the state of California has restricted the sales of most solvents that are effective, I consider myself fortunate to have found 3M General Purpose Cleaner. This product removes road tar and adhesive/sealant from auto finishes. I expect it will be as effective in cleaning tools and car parts from grease and gunk. Not as harsh as Goo Gone, which removes everything down to the metal. Don't tell California this stuff works or they're likely to ban it.

THis was great when I had to remove the adhesive from the glue holding the sound deadening inside my car. This was perfect for the glue but the discoloration and harder glue didn't come off. That is when i used stronger stuff (which also took off some paint)
